This was this first time Ed had experienced this. It was a rather amazing creature without those abilities, so Ed never questioned why his counterpart kept it around. Now he had a whole new understanding of it. It was probably better than having Alphonse around, at least when it came to holding Edward back from getting himself into too much trouble.
