[There are many things that pause could mean, but to Mori it seems the most likely that Lovecraft dislikes the idea of Chuuya working under him again. Of course it could be something else entirely, but as a man adept at observation it comes off as clear enough that that pause didn't just come from lethargy or a lack of interest.]

He certainly can be brash, yes. But I would hardly go so far as to call him foolish. He's proven himself reliable time and time again.
