Ed tilted his head in confusion. It seemed like such a simple statement on the surface, but there was a lot to unpack there. So, was this Gate shared between everyone then? How did that work? The bigger question was how the adult knew about this. He knew the guy had to have opened the Gate while trying to transmute mom, again when he had pulled Al's soul into the armor, and at least one other time when he had transmuted himself. It would make sense for him to have seen Alphonse at the Gate during that first transmutation if it was all shared then. "For my world everyone seems to have their own Gate. It only makes sense for that second one to have been Al's since his body was there and we had both been deconstructed when we tried to transmute mom."

He looked genuinely puzzled when the older Ed started talking about the counterpart in Riverview. Ed couldn't imagine any version of himself liking that kind of job and it really didn't seem like he had been enjoying it, but it wasn't as if he had been asked to act as a human weapon for the military. Tedious and boring were hard for him to deal with, but it wasn't on the kind of level where he'd make that kind of face about it. His face fell and he forgot about the whole thing when Envy was brought up. "Hey, I hadn't exactly been in the best of situations when I suddenly found myself in Riverview. It wasn't like I was used to the idea that there were multiple versions of me running around. What else was I supposed to think?!"
